TCAF 2013 - International Comics Scene Report

This panel discussion was moderated by Xavier Guilbert and had three representative from the UK, Finland, and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong representative was Chihoi and the UK representative was Clark Burscough.  Anna Sailamaa was the Finish rep on the panel and was at TCAF in support of La Bande Dessinée Finlandaise 2013, which is edited by Johanna Rojola and Kalle Hakkola.

One of the interesting things I heard during this discussion was a clever way to distribute underground comics. The Hong Kong representative mentioned that if a creator can't get a license to distribute their work what they sometimes do is sell their works directly through second hand comic book shops. However, the unfortunate thing is that this avenue of distribution is slowly disappearing as second hand comic book stores in Hong Kong are disappearing due to the increasing cost of retail space in Hong Kong.

The UK representative mentioned that over the past two years independent comics have really started to take off in Great Britain.
